Art Journaling with Rebecca Baer Stencils!

 

 

Hello friends! Today  I would like to share a fun art journal page I created featuring the amazing stencils from Rebecca Baer. 

 

I started out with my blank page in my large size Dylusions art journal.  I love this particular stencil I am using, its the Mosaic Medium stencil from Rebecca's Store because it has so many gorgeous shapes and designs to it. It was perfect for what I wanted to do.

 



 

I took out my Dylusions paint and a trusty baby wipe and created a pattern on the page randomly with several of the colours. Then it was time to use the black paint and the stencil. I moved the stencil across the page to give a cohesive look to the pattern.

 

 

Once I was finished with the black paint, I used a small stencil from my stash with a chicken wire pattern on it and some script in white paint.  Once that was finished I set it aside to dry and got out my lovely Prima Bloom Girl stamp  I used Momento black ink to stamp her and then coloured her in with my Spectrum Noir markers and added some Wink of Stella to her lips and a few of the butterflies to make them sparkle! 

 

 

Once I had completed the colouring, I fussy cut her out and used multi medium matte to glue her down to the page.  Then it was time to do some doodling with my white sharpie paint pen. I wrote a poem around the image, and I love how the white stands out against the bright bold colours of the background.

 

 

I am very pleased with the results and as you can see it didn't take much at all to achieve a very dramatic effect in the background using only one stencil. The trick is to use a stencil with a bold pattern against some bright colours.

Time to Celebrate with Crafter's Palette!

 

Good morning friends! I am super excited to share my project today! I am now a designer for the wonderful folks at The Crafter's Palette! I am totally thrilled to be using some of the amazing products in their Store.

Today's project was based on a theme featuring "Fireworks", in honor of November 5th, Bonfire Night in the UK.

 

I started off my 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card on white cardstock and wanted to do a resist technique with the Versamark Pen. I drew free hand "fireworks" with the pen and used some of the Fran-tage Embossing Powder on top of it.

 

 

 I heat set the embossing powder, as you can see by the above right photo. Once that was done it was time to get out my Distress Inks. I used four shades of ink to give a feeling of a night time sky.  The Embossing powder creates a resist to the inks and shows up looking like explosions in the sky.

 

 

I used one colour at a time, starting at the bottom of the card with the darkest colour, Black Soot, and working my way up to a lighter colour of blue.  After I was finished with the inks I took a paper towel and wiped over the fireworks to brighten them up and remove any excess ink from them.

 

Next, I needed a lovely full moon for the top of the card and an easy way to make one is by using your Mustard Seed Distress Ink and the 2.5 cm circle punch you can find in the Crafter's Palette Store.  I also used the mustard seed ink to create light in behind the little buildings as well.

 



 

Lastly, I die cut a sentiment and added some glitter to the moon, and bling to the fireworks for some sparkle.

 

 

 I used some of the 3D foam in black to pop up the houses to add dimension.

The Sky is the Limit! DT Project for Rebecca Baer

Good morning and happy Tuesday friends. Today I am sharing a fun DT project for Rebecca Baer. I was eyeing my stencils I had from Rebecca and was thinking what other ways I could use them.  I like to get lots of mileage out of my crafty tools and I think this technique will allow you to look at your stencils in a completely different light.

 

I started off with the Flights of Fancy stencil I wanted to create a fun and whimsical sky look and I thought that just using a portion of the stencil in a repeating pattern would be good for this. I used the circle images on the stencil with different colours of Distress Inks, moving the stencil over and over on the cardstock.

 

 

 

I used the RB Mini Masking Tape to hold down the stencil, this is great tape, and allows you to move the stencil easily over the page while retaining its sticky-ness!  I also used the RB Artiste Stenciller Brush to add the ink, I really love these brushes they flow smoothly on the cardstock and don't seep under the stencil.

 

 

I used three different shades of blues in the Distress Inks and continued to move the stencil over the page, overlapping the circles and also leaving some negative white space in the background. 

 

Here is a look at the finished background. I also think this stencil would be good for creating a chain look as well....so that might be on the agenda for another project coming up soon!

 

 

 

 Now its time to add some fun die cuts. I am using a hot air balloon theme on here I thought it would go great with the background. This die set also comes with a matching stamp set, so once the dies were cut I could stamp the image on top and then just colour them in.

I added some glitter to the clouds and banner on the hot air balloon and popped up some of the stars to add dimension. I also added a few fun sequins for sparkle.

 

I matted the 6 x 6 card with some coordinating cardstock, added my sentiment and now it's ready to send to a friend.

 

 

I love that I was able to completely create a different background with a stencil I have used often, this really made me look at all my stencils in a new light!
