Home Sweet Home Altered Bird House for Fernli Designs DT

Good morning everyone, Kim here today with my next DT Project for Fernli Designs. This time I have altered one of the lovely birdhouses Fernli carries in their shop.

I used the Large Bird House, which you can find HERE

I painted the house with some white gesso, then gave it a coat of some Prima white crackle medium over about 75% of the house, leaving some areas with just the white paint as I wanted it to look like worn plaster.

Once the crackle medium was dry, I went over it with some Vintage Photo Distress Ink to give the cracks more depth.
Now it was time to move on to making the roof.

I measured the roof and used some metal tape from my hubby's workshop, which I raid often lol! I ran the tape thru my die cut machine in a script embossing folder, to give it some texture. I then got out some Martha Stewart copper paint and gave it a once over, also I used some soft teal paint from my stash in random places, as I wanted it to look like copper that had aged with patina.

Once the paint was dry, I used some Stampendous metals embossing powder on it in random spots, then a final touch of tea dyed mica flakes, also from Stampendous.

Now that the little house was ready, it was time for embellishments. I added this lovely little light to the side of the house also from Fernli Designs. I also added some funky clock hands and bling for fun.

For the roof, I added a metal corner from ButterbeeScraps, which I gave a light coat of gesso to, to shabby it up a little, and of course I had a finishing touch of a little crown from my stash.

I used some more items from my stash, a metallic handle for the little birdies to perch on, and what is a house with out house numbers? So I added some more little numerical metals from my stash to give the house a number.

I figured the house needed a little birdhouse of its own, and I had this tiny metal one in my stash which I hung from the lamp!

I had a little wooden clock in my stash that fit perfectly around the hole in the front, and I added some feet for a finishing touch.

Once again, here is the finished project!

I hope you have found some inspiration today, and will check out all the goodies in the Fernli Shop!

ScraPerfect Mixed Media Tag Featuring The Robin's Nest

Good morning everyone, Kim here with my next project for ScraPerfect.  This time we are doing a cross promo with The Robin's Nest, you have to check out their site and designers!

I have created a mixed media tag this time, and had so much fun incorporating The Robin's Nest goodies!

I gave the tag a coat of gesso and then I used some of the Mixed colours of Dew Drops and mixed them in with my Glass Bead Gel from Golden.

I used my palette knife to put the mixture on the tag in several spots.

I also used some of my stencils from my stash to add more texture.

The next step was to spray some of my favorite colour sprays on the tag to pick up on the texture of the tag. I dried the layers in between and when it was all dry, it was time to get out The Best Glue Ever with the no-clog writing cap on it for good even coverage and to ensure not much glue is used.

I put the glue in various places so I could glue down some mica flakes on the tag.
Below is a close up of the mica flakes and I also used some mica powder in silver over the top of the Dew Drop and glass bead gel.

Once everything was dry I got out some of the Saffron Cards from the set we were given in the cross promo and layered them on the tag.

I placed some white thread behind the card, then added some metal embellishments and flowers around them as well.

I also added some of the remaining Dew Drops around the tag and on the cards.

Once again, here is the finished tag!

I hope you have found some inspiration today, and will check out The Robin's Nest and ScraPerfect Stores.

Thanks for stopping by!

Shabby Owl Tag for Shabby is Chic Boutique on Zibbet

Good morning friends, Kim here today with my next project for Shabby is Chic Boutique on Zibbet.
This time I have altered a large tag using a gorgeous napkin gifted to me by my friend Amy Love.

I first started off by giving the tag a coat of gesso on both sides. Then I cut the napkin to fit, and gave it a coat of Sparkle Mod Podge.

I used some Prima Art Alchemy Paint in rose gold and aqua rose around the image of the owl, then got out my script stamp and Stayzon Ink and stamped around the image as well.

After the ink and Prima Art Alchemy Paints were dry, I also some Prima Bloom spray, in soft teal around the image.

Once the sprays were dry, it was time to get out some gorgeous laces from SCB! I layered on the white and teal tulle trim first at the base of the tag, then some of the scallop trim, mini fringe and finally the gorgeous white and sequin trim at the top.

For the top of the tag, I used 2 of the larger scallops from the scallop trim, and placed a blue acrylic flower with bling in each of them to pick up on the colour of the seam binding I placed thru the hole of the tag.

At this point, I got out the Deco Fun Bow maker, which SCB now carries, and used it to make an easy but elegant bow for the base of the tag. I used the script trim from SCB, and one of the smaller laces from Deco Fun to make the bow.

Once the bow was made, I added some of the new Square Bling from SCB to the center to give it some sparkle and shine! I also added some flowers from my stash in matching colours to add softness to the tag.

A finishing touch was some teal sequins from my stash for more sparkle.

Once again, here is the finished tag.

I hope you will stop by the Shabby is Chic Boutique Store today and make one of these tags yourself, they are really fun to make!
Thanks for stopping by!

Fun Mixed Media with ScraPerfect

Good morning everyone, Kim here today with my next DT project for ScraPerfect. This time I have created a mixed media paint brush!

I started off with a wood blank from Fernli Designs and some old computer and electronic bits from my husbands workshop.

I first covered the wood blank in white gesso.

Then it was time to get out the Best Glue ever and start to glue down my
pieces. As I mentioned, these are old bits from my husbands workshop that he no longer needs and I glue them down so they fit on top of the piece nicely.

Once they are all glued down, I got out my Lindy's Stamp Gang and Ranger Distress Ink sprays in colours I liked and started to layer on colour, drying each layer in between.

Once I was happy with the layers of colour, I got the Best Glue Ever out again, and this time I used it to glue down tiny micro, and mini micro beads for added texture to the piece.

Here is a couple of close up's of the beads!

I set the brush aside to dry and now I will work on the letters for the front of the brush. The letters are also wooden, and from Fernli Designs. I gave them the same spray treatment and then used BGE again so that I could use some of the Transfer Foils from ScraPerfect.

Once the glue dries a bit and becomes tacky, then it is time to lay the foils down on top of the letters.

I choose purple and silver foils to pick up on the colour tones on the brush.

You can see in the photo below how it came out, I just love the shimmer the foils give!

.....and here is the final outcome!

I hope you have found some inspiration here today and will check out the ScraPerfect store for all the items I used on my project.
Thanks for stopping by!
